Income Tax officials had conducted raid in many places during November second week. The 5-day raid could have been the longest raid ever in Tamilnadu. IT officials raided Sasikala’s properties, her relatives houses, Jaya TV office, MIDAS factory premises and other places linked to VK Sasikala who is now in Bangalore jail after being convicted in the disproportionate assets accumulation case with J.Jayalalitha.
Now, IT officials have started raiding Sasikala’s associates’ companies, college and other premises second time yesterday and today (December 27 & 28). This raid comes after the recent R.K. Nagar poll results have come in favor of TTV Dinakaran. However, IT officials deny any political link in this search operation and says it is only a part of “clean money” drive.
In the state though AIADMK is in power, political observers say that the power in Tamilnadu is driven by the BJP (central government). Few months after the death of then chief minister J.Jayalalitha, the AIADMK party split between Sasikala supporters and Edapadi Palanisamy (EPS) & O. Panneerselvam (OPS) team. While the EPS-OPS team is heading the power in Tamilnadu, Sasikala supporters are backing TTV Dinakaran who was nominated by Sasikala as Deputy General Secretary of the AIDMK party.
As continued confusion and jump-game is going on between Sasikala and EPS-OPS party, the political situation in Tamilnadu is unstable. On the other hand the opposition leader M. Karunanidhi (DMK Chief) is at rest due to his health conditions. M.K. Stalin is now heading the DMK party after Karunanidhi’s stepped away from active politics.
Though the 2G verdict gave them a boost and relief, the recent loss in R.K. Nagar by-election has put them in alert mode. With all these political tangle in the state, the continuing IT raids during past two months raises lot of questions among political observers.
Apart from EPS-OPS team of AIDMK and the opposition party DMK, TTV Dinakaran is seen as a growing power in Tamilnadu politics after his massive win as an independent candidate in the R.K.Nagar by-poll. He made history to bag a thumping victory in a by-election being an independent candidate against huge parties like DMK & AIADMK groups beside the BJP which is at power at center.
The IT is raid is expected to extend for few more days at Sasikala’s associates premises.
